Yesterday Prince George accompanied his parents on his first official engagement in the UK. The sweet family attended the Royal International Air Tattoo, an event full of significance for the three. Catherine took over patronage of the Air Cadets back in December and serves as Honorary Air Commandant. William served on the Royal Air Force’s (RAF) Search and Rescue Force from 2010 to 2013. And George has shown an affinity for anything with a motor.

The family stepped out of their Range Rover, surprising everyone by bringing their eldest child along. While George was at first frightened by the noise of the Red Arrows fly past, a pair of Baby Banz Mini Earmuffs in Blue ($28.99) helped calm him down and allowed him to enjoy the event. There were many sweet moments captured including a climb into the cockpit of a Squirrel helicopter – the aircraft William trained in. Flight Lieutenant Jim Hobkirk shared, “I imagine his father has told him [George] about helicopters, so he knew what that was called and kept saying, 'tail rotor.' It was good to see his technical knowledge. Some training going on early!" George also gave an adorable thumbs up as he stepped off one of the show’s aircraft.

For the event, George wore a white, short sleeve polo tucked into navy shorts* and his old, blue and white canvas belt from Mayoral. The belt originally came as part of a set with shorts (seen on George at the 2015 Festival of Polo and morning of the 2015 Trooping the Colour). He wore a summery pair of Hampton Canvas Nantucket Shoes in Navy from Trotters (£15.00). Another classic look for George.

As the event progressed, a young cadet gifted George a blue piggy bank, part of the memorabilia for the RAF 75th anniversary celebration this year. He also received a blue sticker that celebrated the 50th Display Season of the Red Arrows in 2014.
This was such a sweet outing for the family, enjoying a common interest. We wouldn’t be surprised if George joins as an air cadet when he is a teen!
We expect to next see the prince – or a photo of him – on July 22, when he will turn 3 years of age.
* UPDATE 7/21/2016 * George's shorts are the GAP Solid Flat Front Shorts in Navy. They are currently on sale from $16.99-$19.99.
