This year has been another eventful one for our charming Prince George Louis Alexander of Cambridge, who turns 2 today, July 22nd, at precisely 4:24 p.m. He has grown into a boisterous and handsome toddler and big brother since he made his first public appearance on the steps of the Lindo Wing, wrapped in his G.H. Hurt and Son shawl, weighing in at just 8 pounds 6 ounces. Third in line to the throne, this toddler has more of a set future than most - he will not only be the future King of United Kingdom, but will also be the head of the Armed Forces and the Church of England. Undoubtedly, George’s future will require many public appearances and comfort with media attention, and Cheeks is proving already to be an expert. When last officially seen at Princess Charlotte’s christening on July 5, the Prince smiled and waved contentedly to the crowds and was even seen peeking curiously into his sister’s pram and talking with his great-granny (aka the Queen). We think we have quite the charmer in the future monarch.
The nation will commemorate Cheeks’ 2nd birthday with a £5 commemorative coin, released today by the Royal Mint. Priced at £80 and limited to 7,500 coins, its design of St. George and the dragon legend has been approved by William and Kate, the Queen, and the Chancellor. There’s also a £500 gold version, just in case you have that in your change purse.

Kensington Palace released an official photograph yesterday in honor of George’s birthday. It was taken by photographer Mario Testino at Princess Charlotte’s christening and shows our “little monkey” producing a toothy grin in the arms of his father in the gardens of Sandringham House. George is seriously the cutest thing. Every magazine headline agrees with us on this point. A Kensington Palace spokeswoman said: "This photograph captures a very happy moment on what was a special day for the duke and duchess and their family. They are very pleased to share this picture as they celebrate Prince George's second birthday." In the photograph, George wears his red shorts and white button down smocked set from Rachel Riley which is available for “pre-order” for $189.00. Of course the first run ran out the second images from the christening appeared!
Over the past year, we’ve seen George develop quite the uniform. He is often spotted with a collared shirt, cardigan, bermuda shorts, and t-bar shoes. And we can almost guarantee, the boy will be wearing lots of navy like his dad. We predict more classic children’s wear in his official appearances (hello knee socks and smocking!) in year 3 and are looking forward to those fun sartorial surprises at informal outings (remember those Pumpkin Patch Sunnies and the Stella McCartney Eared Hoodie? Or how about his Crocs?).

Although George had a big birthday bash last year, reports say today the family will be celebrating more quietly at Anmer Hall. Kate has been actively planning the get-together with a housekeeper and nanny on hand to keep things organized and tidy. We hear Kate even made the tea and cake! On the guest list, we expect Grandma and Grandpa Middleton, godparents, and some playmates. Grandparents Charles and Camilla will not be in attendance as they are on an official trip, and we’re unsure if William will be in attendance or working a shift as he settles into his new role as an East Anglian Air Ambulance helicopter pilot.

Undoubtedly, the family party will still be quite charming and tasteful - party planning runs in the Middleton blood. Carole started the multi-million dollar party planning company, Party Pieces, and Pippa wrote Celebrate: A Year of Festivities for Families and Friends, a book on hosting events. Scanning the Party Pieces site, the Party with Peter Rabbit theme instantly struck our eye. You’ll remember George’s nursery was outfitted in this same theme, and the classic illustrations make for lovely decor. Pippa even wrote a blog post with ample ideas for activities during this themed party including an obstacle course, inspired by the books. Of course George also adores outings to Snettisham Park and Bucklebury Farm Park, so perhaps the Farm Friends party theme was chosen. Regardless, we know Kate is putting on a warm and stylish event that George and his pals will love, and it must be such a comfort to be able to draw on the experience of her mum and sis.
What a joyful day! Don’t forget to celebrate with us by signing up for our very Royal Raffle (to the right) with Olivier Baby and Kids. Entries will be accepted until 1 p.m. EDT, and the winner will be announced tonight at 5 p.m.
Happy second birthday, Prince George! Love, Prince George Pieces
