Our favorite little prince has been getting thoroughly spoiled on his first Royal Tour. The mystery shawl seen at Plunket Playdate carried by Nanny Maria has been identified! Prime Minister of New Zealand, John Key, gifted Prince George a shawl at the royal birth. Cynthia Read, an award winning spinner and knitter, made the bespoke shawl out of merino wool in a “Filmy Fern” design by Margaret Stove, who also created a baby blanket for Prince William. Wills and Kate met Cynthia Reed during this tour, and Wills hinted at the possibility of needing another in the near future. Sounds like our favorite royals are planning on having another prince or princess, at least in the future! Squee! If you have a crafty hand, pick up an ivory wool from your favorite yarn shop and knit your baby his or her own bespoke wrap. Otherwise, we recommend G. H. Hurt & Son for shawls of similar quality and appearance (Prince George was wrapped in one leaving the hospital).
Since his Plunket Playdate, George has received a “Lil Ripper” bicycle by Avanti from the Hamilton NZ Avantidrome. Unfortunately for those of us in the states, Avanti stockists are found in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. This lightweight bike is perfect for learning to balance and gaining confidence because it has no pedals. Kids simply use their feet to start and stop, pushing off the ground when they feel confident. George may have to wait a couple years before his feet reach, though. They also gifted him with Lycra to wear while cycling. You can find children's cycling gear, like these Altura Progel Lycra Shorts, if your kids enjoy this fabulous sport.
He received another present that he’ll need to grow into - Sealegs gave george a miniature amphibious craft! If you want to take your little sailor on a boating adventure, we recommend this wallet-friendly inflatable one that resembles Captain George’s dinghy!
Other gifts George has received include a mini rugby ball (you can get a 2015 World Cup version here for $11.99 or the chiefs one here) and jersey from the rugby team, the Chiefs. Chiefs Apparel can be purchased on their official website, but PGP recommends you purchase a pint size jersey for your baby supporting your favorite professional sports team.
George also received a WWI replica flying helmut made by Trever Lamb, an Omaka Aviation Heritage Center helmet supplier. Georg’s verison is lined with possum. You can find a faux fur version for your own little pilot here.
During her visit at Rainbow Place Hospice in Hamilton, Kate received a touching gift from one of the children. Hamish Taylor made a gray onesie for Prince George with his name embroidered on it. Taylor is a 17-year-old wheelchair user with muscular dystrophy. If you are not fond of embroidering, yourself, you can get a customized onesie on Etsy. Nyla Kelley Designs has a beautiful, embroidered option, and they’re open to special requests (perhaps you can request a grey onesie instead of a white one). Note: We have not worked with this Etsy company and cannot guarantee their quality of services. This is such an inspiring story and PGP’s fave gift for Cheeks thus far. There is nothing more special than something DIYed out of love.
All of these gifts have inspired us to go shopping for our favorite babies and show them a little love, although we will probably stick to things they can use now without needing a boating license!
