A Royal Birth and the Birth of a Blog!

We are so excited you are joining us for our official launch! To celebrate the birth of this blog, we are going to cover what George wore emerging from the hospital in the arms of his doting mother and father.

The birth was announced unprecedentedly on Twitter, followed by the tradational formal bulletin outside Buckingham Palace, and was celebrated with gun salutes around the world. When His Royal Highness George Alexander Louis of Cambridge made his historic appearance outside the Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital on 23 July, 2013, he was lovingly wrapped in a super-fine merino shawl made by GH Hurt & Sons, continuing a tradition. His father, Prince William, was also wrapped in a shawl by the same company. The hand finished shawl costs £45 (about $75) from the family-run label. George made a second appearance in the exquisite christening blanket in his first family portrait, photographed by his grandfather, Michael Middleton.

Wills and Kate chose the winner of the Mother & Baby award for Best Baby Infant Car Seat from 2012 to secure George in for his trip home from the hospital. The Britax Roemer BABY-SAFE plus SHR II is lightweight yet designed to provide the utmost comfort for your infant. While the car seat can be used for the first year, the company also provides options for older babies to accommodate their growth and maintain high safety standards. Interestingly, although Britax is based in the UK, Kate and Wills decided on choosing a piece from their German counterpart. Perhaps the couple picked up the car seat while attending the wedding of a friend in Switzerland in March 2013. The car seat runs for £135, but it is not compatible with US vehicles. However, Britax offers a full line of car seats, strollers, and baby carriers designed specifically for a number of countries, including the USA, so mummies all around the globe have comparable options. We like the BOB B-Safe available in the US.

Secured in his new car seat, George was swaddled in an adorable blanket adorned with tiny birds. The New York based aden + anais sells this swaddle cloth in a "Jungle Jam" pack of four that retails for $49.95. The versatile swaddles are 100% muslin cotton, insuring comfort for your infant, and they are extremely light weight and breathable. You can use these things for anything from blankies to burp cloths, and they hold up great in the wash (a must for new mummies)! When playing with her friend's 6-month-old son, baby "J", Chrissy loves to lay out the aden + anais Jungle bird swaddle on the floor as a play area. Jack is fond of rolling around on it with his toys! If you are interested in purchasing a more affordable option, aden + anais has a fantastic collaboration with the retailing giant, Target, that carries a variety of similar items. We love the Safari Friends 4 pack for $34.99, capturing the same spirit of the cute birds on George's version.

While both blankets George wore on the day of his birth sold out almost immediately, we are happy to report they are back in stock! Scoop up these great staple items seen at Prince George's birth; they are great additions to any nursery. Happy shopping!
