We all know that person that has EVERYTHING, but what do you get that individual when he happens to be the future King of Britain? Oh, and 8 months old at that? Pope Francis faced this very question when the Queen and Prince Philip visited him at the Vatican earlier today. His response was to gift Prince George a lapis lazuli orb via Queen Elizabeth, according to The Daily Mail.
“He will be thrilled with that…” the Queen tactfully replied upon receiving this trinket for her grandson, pausing to add “when he’s a little older!” If only we had such graceful responses!
The orb features a silver cross of Edward the Confessor and bears the inscription, “Pope Francis, to His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.” For those of us curious, Edward the Confessor was an 11th century English King from the House of Wessex who went on to be memorialized as a Catholic Saint. Orbs were once used by the Romans to represent the universe and later on came to represent royal power. Lapis lazuli itself is a universal symbol for wisdom and truth and has been sought after since ancient times for its beautiful cerulean color. The Duchess of Cambridge will no doubt recognize and appreciate the stone, having majored in History of Art at St. Andrews University.
You can make a similar statement at the next baby shower you attend by gifting a Healing Crystals orb similar to George’s.
